For this benefit concert’s inaugural event, the client requested a logo that would be eye-catching, whimsical and symbolic — overtly displaying either music or the the lungs, which are an important symbol for those battling cystic fibrosis. I settled on a simplified logo for general use and a more detailed illustration for various marketing materials.
A Day of Music BENEFITING the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disorder that mostly affects the lungs, causing lifelong problems with breathing and digestion. The goal of this music festival was to raise both awareness for cystic fibrosis and funding for its treatment.
The brand needed to be striking while still evoking the same spirited energy that is expected of a music festival. I settled on a surrealist-inspired illustration, showing lungs intertwined with a guitar. The graphic backdrop naturally evolved into the Blue Ridge Mountains, since the event was to take place in the mountain town of Asheville, North Carolina. With blue as a primary color for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, I focused on shades of blue with complementary shades of orange.
The illustration was used across various marketing materials for the event, including posters and flyers to disperse across the city, day-of festival badges and digital graphics for the event venue’s website and social media. It was also applied to various event merchandise such as mugs, sweatshirts and t-shirts.
